How we treat each other
The Cancer Social Club should be a place where everyone feels comfortable – at our meetups just as much as in our WhatsApp group. That is our top priority. To make it work, we follow a few principles.
-
Feeling comfortable comes first
That calls for treating each other gently. If a situation or a particular trigger makes you feel uncomfortable, please do speak up! Feel free to come to us at any time or talk to another member.
-
What's shared here stays here
What's said in our group stays in our group. Only share photos or messages of others if the person agrees – because even a photo from a meetup can reveal that someone has cancer.
-
Invite people – and be their buddy
If you know someone who is currently in cancer treatment or has had cancer and would like to join: invite them! See yourself as their buddy and help them get a good start in our community and the way we do things.
-
Cancelling is always okay
Cancelling at short notice because of your physical or mental health is never a problem – and that's how we want it to be.
-
No lecturing
Everyone deals with their illness in their own way. Questions about the illness and treatment, asking for tips and other topics around cancer are of course welcome. What matters is that everyone decides and speaks for themselves – nobody pushes their opinion on others.
-
No substitute for professionals
The Cancer Social Club is not a medical or professional platform. It's about a social, relaxed get-together where we talk and share moments. The Cancer Social Club does not replace medical or psychological care.
-
No advertising, no selling
No selling products, no promoting your own products or services and nothing else that goes in the direction of sales or advertising. That's an absolute no-go and goes against everything the Cancer Social Club stands for.
-
Not a dating platform
If two people find each other, the whole group will surely be happy for you! That's absolutely fine and would be wonderful to see. But please don't let the idea of the Cancer Social Club drift towards dating. We're a mixed group, and everyone should feel comfortable at all times.
-
Everyone is welcome
Racism, sexism, queerphobia and any other form of discrimination have no place here. The only thing we do focus on is age: we're aimed at younger people – because Austria lacks a group for them and some topics are more present at a younger age.
